Amazon denies a report that it is intending to close down its ad-supported Freevee service.

Amazon has denied a report that it is planning to close down Freevee in favour of focusing on its Prime Video service.

Launched in 2019, the ad-supported streaming service - a replacement for IMDb TV - is the UK home of shows including the Neighbours revival and Judy Justice, as well as thousands of hours of TV and film content, plus a plethora of FAST channels.

Amazon has recently introduced ads to its Prime Video service, however, and industry publication Adweek said that that platform would now be the focus, with Freevee shutting later this year - or even as soon as April.

In a statement, the online giant described the report as "inaccurate", adding: "There are no changes to Freevee. Amazon Freevee remains an important streaming offering providing both Prime and non-Prime customers thousands of hit movies, shows, and originals, all for free."

Ads were introduced for Prime Video customers in the UK earlier this month, although subscribers can opt to pay an additional £2.99 a month to retain an ad-free experience.
