BBC postpones EastEnders for Boris Johnson statement

Tonight's EastEnders will air half an hour later than scheduled in order to accommodate the broadcast of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation.

The BBC has postponed tonight's episode of EastEnders by 30 minutes in order to broadcast Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation.

The PM is expected to announce details of a full UK lockdown effective from midnight tonight in an attempt to help tackle the frightening surge in hospital admissions relating to coronavirus.

BBC One will carry the broadcast live at 8pm as part of a BBC News Special, which will air after The One Show at 7.35pm, and as a result EastEnders will be delayed from 8.05pm to 8.35pm.

ITV will air a news special between episodes of Coronation Street from 8pm to 8.30pm, with the new series of Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad being bumped from the schedule to make room.

Channel 4, meanwhile, has extended its 7pm news bulletin to 8.30pm.
