Captain Tom Moore's fundraising walk for the NHS passes £6 million

Captain Tom Moore's walk for the NHS has now raised more than £6 million.

Captain Tom Moore's inspirational walk to raise money for the NHS has passed a staggering £6 million in donations.

The 99-year-old is aiming to complete 100 laps of his back garden by the time he turns 100 later this month in order to help support NHS workers battling the deadly coronavirus on the front line.

What started off as a modest target of £1,000 has snowballed over the last few days and reached the £1 million mark yesterday morning.

Just over 24 hours later the total has skyrocketed past £6 million - a figure that could pay for 240 nurses, 1200 small ventilators or 15,000 new hospital beds.

In a post on his Twitter account, which is managed by his daughter, Moore said today: "Good morning everyone - Another lovely day and we have just looked at the amazing total this morning. Thank you so much to the British public who have offered their support for our incredible @NHSuk. I have another 10 laps to do today."
