Hollyoaks to resume filming in July

Hollyoaks will resume filming new episodes from next month before ramping back up to airing four episodes a week from September.

Channel 4 has announced that Hollyoaks will resume filming new episodes next month ahead of moving back to broadcasting four episodes a week from September.

The soap is currently airing twice a week after filming was halted in March as the UK entered coronavirus lockdown but production will now resume this week in Liverpool ahead of filming starting up again in July.

A C4 spokesperson said: "The Channel 4 drama, which is shot differently to other soaps with single-camera, will increase in episodes from its current two nights a week to four nights a week from September, the current plan being to return to five episodes in 2021.

"To safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all involved in the production of Hollyoaks, new work protocols will be in place. All cast and crew will attend a safety induction to familiarise themselves with the revised way of working prior to production re-starting."

ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street are already back in business and like Hollyoaks, will not be forced off air, while EastEnders will take a break of around two months after its final episode airs next week.
