Jeremy Renner says that he is "messed up" as he recovers from a horrific incident involving a snow plow.

Marvel star Jeremy Renner has admitted that he is "messed up" following a horrific accident at the weekend involving his snow plow.

The 51-year-old, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU, was airlifted to hospital following the incident near his ranch in Nevada.

Renner is believed to have used his own snow plow to help clear the road for a family member who was stuck in the bad conditions, but when he got out of the vehicle to check on them, the plow rolled back and ran over him.

The actor was described as being in a "critical" condition in hospital, having lost a significant amount of blood, but now he has shared an encouraging picture of him recovering in bed.

He accompanied the picture with the caption: "Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all."

Renner's sister Kym told CBS: "We are so thrilled with his progress. If anyone knows Jeremy, he is a fighter and doesn't mess around.

"He is crushing all the progress goals. We couldn't feel more positive about the road ahead."

According to a previous health update, Renner suffered "blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries" in the accident.
