Harvey Weinstein 'seriously ill with suspected coronavirus'

Harvey Weinstein is reportedly seriously ill in a New York prison with symptoms that suggest he has coronavirus.

Disgraced Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is reportedly seriously ill with symptoms associated with coronavirus.

The 68-year-old is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York after being convicted of historical sexual abuse offences earlier this year - a consequence of the #MeToo movement which saw more than 80 women to allege that he had harassed, assaulted or raped them.

According to TMZ, Weinstein has been placed in isolation in jail after reporting a high temperature and is now awaiting the results of a coronavirus test taken on Tuesday morning.

A representative for the producer told the publication: "It should come as no surprise that Mr. Weinstein has numerous maladies and conditions including a heart condition, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis.

"We are working with the NYSDOCCS and the excellent team at Wende CF to ensure Mr. Weinstein receives the proper medical attention he needs."

TMZ added that Weinstein's condition is "very serious" and he is "at extreme risk" of potentially fatal consequences.
