The winner of this year's The Masked Singer admits to being "terrified" over the course of the series.

The Masked Singer winner Charlie Simpson has admitted that he was "terrified" for most of the series.

In Saturday night's finale, the Busted and Fightstar singer was revealed to be Rhino, who defeated Phoenix (Ricky Wilson) and Fawn (Natalie Appleton) to be crowned 2023 champion.

The 37-year-old has been performing live for more than 20 years but revealed afterwards that he had been constantly worrying about forgetting the words to his songs.

"I was terrified. I know many people have said that being behind the mask makes them more confident but I have never really been a nervous performer," he said. "I love singing, so I feel as though I have always had the confidence to perform.

"The thing that terrified me was remembering the lyrics. It's something I got really anxious about. I kept worrying that my mind would go blank and I would forget the lyrics as they were not songs I was used to singing!"

He also revealed that his bandmates were quick to message him when Rhino first performed, saying: "My bandmates in both Busted and Fightstar guessed it was me within the first two seconds of hearing Rhino sing.

"When you spend that much time on stage with people and spend so much time in the studio, it would be very hard for them not to get it pretty much instantly!"

The complete fourth series of The Masked Singer is available now on ITVX.
