A peak of 27 million viewers tune in to watch the funeral of The Queen across UK TV channels on Monday.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II brought in a peak of 27 million viewers in the UK on Monday, according to overnight ratings figures.

Britain's longest-reigning monarch died at the age of 96 on September 8 and was laid to rest at Windsor Castle yesterday afternoon following a morning ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

The peak audience actually came in the hour after the first service, at around 12.30pm, when over 21m were watching the BBC's coverage and more than 5m were tuned in to ITV's coverage, which was simulcast across all of its digital channels.

The figures do not include viewers who watched on streaming services such as iPlayer and the ITV Hub, nor do overnight figures include people watching in pubs, bars or public spaces.

Sky News' coverage peaked at 959,000 at 4.47pm, BBC News Channel peaked with 1.04m at 4.38pm and GB News peaked with 291,000 at 11.40am.
