Barcelona's remaining fixtures ahead of La Liga restart

Ahead of the La Liga restart this weekend, Sports Mole looks at the remaining fixtures facing defending champions and current league leaders Barcelona.

La Liga football will return this weekend, more than three months after being put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Spanish top flight resumes with plenty of fascinating battles still to be decided - not least the perennial title tussle between Clasico rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Barca went into lockdown with the slight advantage, leading Madrid by two points courtesy of victory over Real Sociedad in their final match before play was halted.

La Blaugrana have 11 matches left to play this season, starting with a trip to face relegation-threatened Mallorca on Saturday evening.

Indeed, Quique Setien's side face two of the bottom three in their first two games back, with Leganes the first team to visit Camp Nou next Tuesday night.

Barcelona's toughest remaining game on paper will then take place on Friday 19 when they take on third-placed Sevilla before hosting mid-table Athletic Bilbao four days later.

Another relegation-threatened team - Celta Vigo - are next up before bringing a packed June schedule to a close at home to Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

July begins with a trip to Villarreal, who are still in with a chance of challenging for Europe this season, before a derby against Espanyol - currently bottom of the table.

Barca then close the season with three more games against bottom-half opposition in the form of Real Valladolid, Osasuna and Alaves.
