Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud reveals he held three-day talks with Frank Lampard at the end of the summer transfer window before deciding to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud has opened up on his "good relationship" with Frank Lampard and revealed that the Chelsea head coach persuaded him to stay on at Stamford Bridge.

The France international was expected to depart West London in the summer transfer window after slipping further down the pecking order since the end of last season.

A number of teams were interested in signing Giroud, who has netted 29 goals in 91 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions since arriving in 2018.

However, the 34-year-old was convinced by Lampard during three-day crisis talks to remain at the club for another year.

"He's a manager who's got some good ideas in the game," he told Onze Mondial. "He communicates well too, in the sense that he knows what he wants to tell his players.

"The message goes through well. Now, of course, there's a need for time to work, to integrate the new players.

"Either way, I have a good relationship with him, especially after we got to know each other during those three days before the end of the transfer window.

"I was in his office, we were trying to find a solution and I eventually stayed. I'm staying another year, and I have a good relationship with him."

Giroud will be hoping to make just his second Premier League appearance of the season when Chelsea take on Manchester United this coming weekend.
