Former midfielder Dietmar Hamann has backed Liverpool to complete a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho next summer.

The 19-year-old has caught the eye of top clubs across Europe with a series of excellent performances since moving to Germany, scoring four times and contributing seven assists in 11 appearances in all competitions this season.

Reports have suggested that Manchester United were favourites to complete a deal in the summer, and the Red Devils are expected to return for Sancho once again in June.

Speaking to Sky Germany on the subject of Sancho, Hamann said: "What I hear is that Liverpool has great interest. I would imagine that next summer they could become one of the biggest interested parties.

"He's from Manchester City and I do not know if he would come back again, and it's a thing for Manchester United, too, if they've ever been to the rivals. Sancho does not have a release clause. If Dortmund say that they want an astronomical amount, it will not happen.

"There are currently few players that could reinforce [Liverpool's] offensive [lineup]."

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc recently admitted that the long-term future of Sancho was unlikely to be at the Westfalenstadion.

Liverpool did not make any major signings over the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp said to be happy with the options at his disposal.
