Sergio Aguero reportedly turned down the chance to earn a higher wage at Juventus in order to fulfil his 'dream' of playing alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Sergio Aguero reportedly turned down a more lucrative offer from Juventus in order to complete a move to Barcelona.

Manchester City's all-time leading goalscorer was unveiled as a Blaugrana player earlier this week, having penned a two-year deal with the club as his time at the Etihad nears an end.

Barca beat several top European clubs to the signature of Aguero, with Juve thought to have been interested amid uncertainty surrounding the future of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

Aguero accepted a significant pay cut to link up with Barca, and Mundo Deportivo now reports that the Argentine rejected the chance to move to Juventus for more money, as it is his 'dream' to play alongside Lionel Messi.

The report adds that Aguero will pocket €6m (£5.1m) per year in Catalonia compared to the annual €23m (£19.7m) he received at Man City, but his earnings could go up with various performance-related bonuses.

The 33-year-old leaves Man City having scored 260 goals in 390 games for the club across all competitions, and the Citizens' chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has insisted that City will replace Aguero in the summer transfer window.
