Sofyan Amrabat's agent was in Manchester on Tuesday to hold talks with Manchester United over his client's future, according to a report.

Sofyan Amrabat's agent was reportedly in Manchester on Tuesday to hold talks with Manchester United over the future of his client.

The Morocco international made a loan switch to Old Trafford from Fiorentina last summer, and the Red Devils have the option to sign him on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window.

The loan is believed to have cost Erik ten Hag's side €10m (£8.6m), while the purchase option is said to be worth €20m (£17.1m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

The 27-year-old has made 27 appearances for Man United this season, but he has largely struggled to hold down a starting role.

The Moroccan made just his eighth Premier League start of the campaign against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, and he was one of his side's stronger performers in the 1-0 loss.

Amrabat agent 'flies in for Man United transfer talks'

According to the Daily Mail, Amrabat's agent was in Manchester on Tuesday to hold talks with the Red Devils over his client's future.

The report claims that Man United are not expected to activate the purchase option, with Amrabat therefore set to return to parent club Fiorentina.

However, the midfielder is not expected to represent the Italian club next term, with a move to Saudi Arabia believed to be an option in the upcoming market.

Amrabat has made 19 Premier League appearances this season, and he is expected to be involved in Man United's final two league games of the campaign against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Has Amrabat's loan move been a success?

Man United were linked with the midfielder for long stages of last summer's transfer window before eventually getting a deal over the line in the final stages of the market.

It was a surprise when he arrived on loan rather than on a permanent basis, but the deal did offer Man United protection, as Amrabat was unproven in English football.

There is no getting away from the fact that he has found it difficult to show his best form at Old Trafford, and the Moroccan has been down the pecking order for much of this season.

Amrabat was impressive against Arsenal last time out, but he has struggled with the pace of the Premier League at times, and it is difficult to imagine him joining Man United on a permanent basis.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are also set to leave Old Trafford this summer, with at least one central midfielder set to arrive.
