Heskey: 'Sancho would give Liverpool longevity'

Emile Heskey urges former club Liverpool to move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer in order to provide more "longevity" to their recent dominance.

Emile Heskey has tipped former club Liverpool to move for Jadon Sancho this summer in order to ensure that they remain at the top of football for longer.

Liverpool are one of a host of clubs thought to be interested in the 20-year-old winger, who has had a hand in 30 goals from just 23 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season.

The England international is expected to command a fee of up to £120m, which could put him out of Liverpool's price range, but Heskey believes that signing the in-demand youngster would improve their chances of remaining the dominant force in English football for a longer spell.

"When you look at Jadon Sancho's age, he will always be an asset to Liverpool," Heskey told Genting Bet.

"In two to three years, you've got an ageing Liverpool side - even though in this day and age and with the fitness levels of all the players, age is nothing.

"But having someone young, fresh and dynamic coming in, it will only add to the squad and I think that is where Jurgen is going to be looking at next. What can he add to the squad that is going to give Liverpool that little bit more longevity.

"When you look at the Liverpool frontline, you've got [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah as the goal-getters and that is exactly what they do well. They command respect from defenders as a result. You'd like to think that Sancho has the quality to get in the side, but it will be very tough to get in ahead of Salah or Mane."

Manchester United are thought to be leading the race for Sancho's signature, but the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest.
