Michel Platini files urgent appeal at Court of Arbitration for Sport against ban

Michel Platini files an "urgent" appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport that his 90-day provisional ban be lifted.

UEFA president Michel Platini has filed an "urgent" appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against his provisional 90-day ban.

The Frenchman was suspended, along with FIFA president Sepp Blatter, last month by FIFA's ethics committee over a £1.3m payment made to Platini in 2011 for work said to be carried out almost a decade previously.

Earlier this week the duo's appeals to the FIFA appeal committee were both rejected and Platini's last resort is CAS, who today confirmed his appeal.

A statement read: "In his appeal, Michel Platini has also requested that the current provisional suspension be stayed until a final decision of FIFA on the merits of this case.

"The CAS will determine the next steps of this procedure next week, after consultation with the parties concerned."

Platini wants to run for the FIFA presidency next year, but cannot take part in any football-related activity under his suspension.
