Zico to run for FIFA presidency

Brazil legend Zico says that he intends to stand for the role of FIFA president to replace Sepp Blatter.

Brazilian legend Zico has said that he intends to stand for the role of president at FIFA.

Incumbent president Sepp Blatter claimed last week that he will step down from the role, following the recent scandal surrounding the governing body.

His resignation came just days after he was re-elected for a fifth term, despite the arrests of top FIFA officials on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering as part of a US investigation.

The new election is expected to take place in December, and Zico has thrown his hat into the ring of potential candidates to take charge.

"I would like to confirm the decision to be a candidate," Zico told a press conference.

"I feel I am capable. For sure, certain rules need to change."

Zico played in three World Cup finals with Brazil and won 71 caps for his country.
