NFL roundup: Denver Broncos, St Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins suffer defeats

Sports Mole rounds up all the pre-season games from Saturday evening in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks inflicted a heavy defeat on the Denver Broncos, beating the AFC West champions 40-10 in their pre-season game.

Jermaine Kearse hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson before returning a kickoff for a 107-yard score, while Brandon Browner, Sean McGrath and Stephen Williams also added touchdowns for Seattle.

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker scored his first touchdown for his new team in the first quarter, catching an 11-yard pass from Peyton Manning before leaving the game early with an ankle sprain.

Khalil Bell scored two touchdowns as the New York Jets beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The running back found the end zone twice from his 11 carries, while Jeff Cumberland and Mike Edwards also added to the score for the Jets.

Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert starting the game well, but picked up a thumb injury that forced him off the field.

Mark Sanchez, who is competing to be the starting quarterback for the Jets, completed 13 from 23 attempts for 169 yards, making a touchdown pass and throwing an interception.

The Green Bay Packers scored their first points of the pre-season to beat the St Louis Rams 19-7.

Aaron Rodgers played three series for the NFC North champions, completing 10 of his 12 passes for 134 yards, but failed to find the end zone.

The Rams scored their only points of the game inside the final minute, as Austin Davis found Nick Johnson with a 21-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.

Three Houston Texans quarterbacks completed touchdown passes as the side beat the Miami Dolphins 24-17.

Starter Matt Schaub recovered from an interception and a sack in the first quarterback to find Owen Daniels in the end zone, while Case Keenum and TJ Yates ensured that the score continued to increase later in the game.

Mike Wallace and Lamar Millar both added touchdowns to keep the Dolphins in contention at half time, but a third-quarter Garrett Graham score ensured that the the Texans secured the win.

The Cincinnati Bengals claimed their second victory of the pre-season with a 27-19 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Running back Giovani Bernard had seven carries for the AFC North side, making 37 rushing yards and scoring a touchdown.

Titans starting quarterback Jake Locker struggled, completing 12 of his 20 attempts for 116 passing yards, while Ryan Fitzpatrick made two touchdown passes for Tennessee when he entered the game.

Earlier in the evening, the Arizona Cardinals recorded a narrow win over the Dallas Cowboys.
