Erik Spoelstra: 'Dwyane Wade will not face restrictions'

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra claims that Dwyane Wade will play without restrictions this season.

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has insisted that Dwyane Wade will not have any restrictions this season.

Injuries have forced Wade to miss 48 games in the last two seasons but a summer without any problems has ensured that the 11-time All-Star is in good condition heading into his 13th year with the franchise.

As the Heat look to recover from a season which saw them miss out on the playoffs, Spoelstra claims that the 33-year-old's minutes will not be limited.

"Dwyane has to be our leader," the Heat coach told reporters. "He's grown in that role and with new veteran players, everybody naturally turns to Dwyane as the cornerstone of our franchise and they turn to [Chris Bosh] and they turn to [Udonis Haslem]. He's fully accepted that responsibility.

"Dwyane is coming into this season ready for whatever challenges it brings, and I'm not coaching him with restrictions in mind. We'll adapt and be aware of anything that may come up as the season goes on."

Wade averaged 21.9 points per game last season.
