British welterweight Kell Brook was reportedly left in a critical condition after being stabbed in the leg during a holiday in Tenerife.
Brook, who was recently crowned IBF champion after defeating Shawn Porter, was involved in an altercation outside an apartment block at 6am on Thursday morning, but his injuries were initially said to be "non life-threatening".
However, according to Canarian Weekly, Brook's family were told that the 28-year-old was in a critical condition before undergoing a "major" operation that is believed to have saved his life.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, who has since flown out with Brook's parents to be with the boxer and his wife, was unable to give an update on the Sheffield fighter's condition before arriving on the island.
Brook had been due to make the first defence of his world title on December 6, but with his career reportedly in jeopardy, that event is likely to be scrapped.
