Kevin Pietersen takes swipe at "frustrating" English county game

Axed England batsman Kevin Pietersen admits to being 'frustrated' by the lack of a franchise system being integrated into English Twenty20 cricket.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has called for the franchise system used in Australia and India to be adopted in English Twenty20 cricket.

The 34-year-old took part in this year's Big Bash League in Australia - a competition which spans across six weeks with a match taking place near enough every day.

England's T20 Blast, meanwhile, lasts over three months and features all 18 county sides.

"The franchise system works, everybody has made it work, the whole world has gone that way," Pietersen is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"Why can't they do it in England? It's strange. What's frustrating is they say they want to help home-grown players. The best way to make them become better is to play against better players."

This year's T20 Blast gets underway in May, with Birmingham Bears the defending champions.
