Injured Kevin Pietersen abandons Indian Premier League return

Kevin Pietersen is ruled out for at least two weeks with a calf and Achilles injury, which has seen his hopes of linking up with Sunrisers Hyderabad put to an end.

Kevin Pietersen's return to the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad has been scuppered due to injury.

The 34-year-old damaged his calf and Achilles while smashing an unbeaten triple century for Surrey earlier this week, which is likely to keep him out of action for at least the next two weeks.

Pietersen has now taken the decision not to travel to India to compete for Sunrisers, while the uproar over his England exclusion rumbles on.

Despite his heroics for Surrey against Leicestershire, new director of cricket Andrew Strauss ruled out a return to the England fold for Pietersen - a move which he described as "deceitful".
