GB News secures a live town hall event with foreign secretary and potential new Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Potential next Prime Minister Liz Truss has agreed to take part in a town hall debate on GB News.

Members of the Conservative Party are in the process of voting on who should succeed Boris Johnson as PM and have the choice between foreign secretary Truss and former chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Both candidates have taken part in numerous debates, hustings events and interviews in recent weeks - and now Truss has decided to take questions from viewers of the right-leaning GB News.

Veteran broadcaster Alastair Stewart will host the special programme, The People's Forum with Liz Truss, on August 10 at 5pm live from Leigh in Greater Manchester.

"I am looking forward to talking to GB News viewers and our members in the heart of our Red Wall and taking their questions," said Truss, who is the current bookies' favourite for the role.

"As Prime Minister, I will work tirelessly to deliver for those who voted for us across the Red Wall, including those who put their trust in us for the first time in 2019.

"I have a bold and ambitious economic plan and the experience in Government to deliver it.

"I am on the side of people who work hard and do the right thing and as Prime Minister I will make sure we are an 'aspiration nation' with a fast growing economy and ensure every part of the country thrives."

Stewart, who hosted the first ever Prime Ministerial debate on ITV in 2010, said: "I am thrilled to be carrying on the tradition and helping it evolve as a format. This is a Peoples' Debate where we will hear their questions and hear the candidates' answers.

"I'm just an honest broker - an impartial referee. I can't wait."

Sunak has also been asked to take part in a similar event at a later date.
