Paddy Power "appalled" by Nick Bendtner ban

Paddy Power criticise UEFA following Nicklas Bendtner's suspension and fine for exposing his underpants with the Irish bookmaker's logo on them.

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power have spoken of their dismay after learning that Nicklas Bendtner had been dealt a one-match ban and a £80,000 fine from UEFA for exposing sponsored underwear during a recent match.

The Danish striker showed the waistband of his boxer shorts, which had the Paddy Power logo on them, after scoring against Portugal last week.

UEFA have strict guidelines against advertising during matches and have decided to hand out a double punishment to the Arsenal frontman.

However, Paddy Power believe that the 24-year-old has been harshly treated.

"[Paddy Power] are appalled with the severity of Nicklas Bendtner's fine for wearing his lucky pants recently," a message read on the bookmaker's Twitter page. "We think this is a hysterical and deeply cynical move by UEFA driven by pure commercialism!

"We will be contacting Mr Bendtner to offer him our full support for his UEFA appeal."

Any appeal is likely to be heard later this week.
