Arsenal's Kieran Tierney undergoes successful surgery on knee injury

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney announces that he has undergone successful surgery on the knee injury which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has announced that he has undergone successful surgery on his serious knee injury.

The Scotland international had been playing through the issue for a number of weeks and was fit enough to turn out for Steve Clarke's side in March's international break.

However, after missing the Gunners' 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday night, Arsenal announced that Tierney would be forced to go under the knife and would not play again this season.

The former Celtic man has now revealed that the operation was a success and offered a positive update on an Instagram story following the procedure.

"Op went well. Thank you so much for all the messages of support. Really appreciate it," Tierney wrote, with the post accompanied by a picture of him smiling on his hospital bed.

Tierney joins Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey in the Arsenal treatment room, with the Gunners also confirming that the latter will be assessed "in the coming weeks" for muscular damage to his right thigh.

Tierney has scored one goal and set up three more in 22 Premier League matches for Arsenal this season but has already missed 38 games for the Gunners through injury since his 2019 arrival.
