Thomas Partey to return to Arsenal training ahead of North London derby

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggests that Thomas Partey could be in contention for the North London derby, providing that he proves his fitness in training on Friday.

Thomas Partey is ready to return to Arsenal training ahead of Sunday's North London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

Mikel Arteta had recently suggested that the Ghana international would remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future with a thigh injury.

However, while the summer arrival was not involved against Rapid Vienna on Thursday evening, Arteta revealed that the midfielder is pushing to be involved in the showdown with the club's fierce rivals.

Speaking to reporters, Arteta said: "Well, he's putting a lot of pressure to us, he's training tomorrow with us and let's see how it goes in the next couple of days."

Partey has made just five appearances since his arrival from Atletico Madrid, the latest coming against Aston Villa on November 8.
