Former vice-chairman of Arsenal David Dein says that the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has "unfinished business" at the club.

Arsenal's former vice-chairman David Dein believes that Arsene Wenger has "unfinished business" at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners boss has been the subject of increasing criticism after the club finished their sixth season in a row without silverware, sold both Samir Nasri and captain Cesc Fabregas, and lost 8-2 to Manchester United last weekend.

However, Dein believes that the Frenchman can still turn the club's fortunes around following the arrivals of Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos and Mikel Arteta at the end of the transfer window.

"Arsene has unfinished business at the club," Dein is quoted as saying in The Mirror. "Fans should give him the respect that he deserves for what he’s done."

"Under Arsene, they've had very good times and there's no reason to expect why we shouldn't see them again. People talk about, 'Has his time finished at the club?' That's a very dangerous thing to say because it's easy to get rid of people and then what?

"I can understand the worry as the expectation level is so high and Arsene has brought such success. In each one of 15 years we've been in the Champions League. So you can understand fans feel frustrated that they haven’t seen a trophy for a few years."

Arsenal will look to get their Premier League season back on track after the international break when Swansea City travel to the London side next Saturday.
