The PGMOL confirms that an investigation is underway after a linesman appeared to elbow Liverpool's Andrew Robertson during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.

The PGMOL have confirmed that they are looking into an incident which saw Andrew Robertson allegedly elbowed by a linesman during Sunday's Premier League contest with Arsenal.

The Reds stormed back from 2-0 down to hold the league leaders to a 2-2 draw, and tempers flared between the two clubs during the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Liverpool reduced the deficit through Mohamed Salah before the break, but a bizarre episode between Robertson and linesman Constantine Hatzidakis took centre stage after the half-time whistle blew.

The Scottish left-back approached the official, who seemingly moved his elbow towards Robertson's face, understandably sparking a furious reaction from the Liverpool man.

Robertson was cautioned by referee Paul Tierney, who did not appear to see the incident involving Hatzidakis, and the official continued his duties during the second half.

A statement released by the PGMOL confirmed that the incident was under review, saying: "PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded."

Prior to Robertson's set-to with the linesman, Jurgen Klopp's side were blown away by Arsenal in the opening 30 minutes and conceded to Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

However, the Anfield crowd were riled up following a scuffle between Granit Xhaka and Trent Alexander-Arnold, which breathed new life into a hitherto sleeping Liverpool side.

Salah tapped home at the back stick to cut the deficit in half, but the Egyptian then missed a second-half penalty as Arsenal quelled a barrage of Liverpool attacks.

Klopp's side would ultimately be rewarded for their stellar second-half display, as Roberto Firmino headed home the equalising goal before Aaron Ramsdale made two stunning saves from Salah and Ibrahima Konate to deny the Reds all three points.

While being disappointed with his side's failure to clinch all three points, Klopp believes that he saw the best reaction from his side for a "a long time" in the second half.

"The question I had in my mind when I walked in after the game was, 'How can we not win this game?' But we didn't. It's a point and that's OK," Klopp said in his post-game press conference.

"It's another step in the right direction I would say. It's the first time in a long time we reacted really well, we didn't fall apart. That could have happened with everything that happened already this year - 1-0, 2-0 and then a next chance for 3-0, but that didn't happen because we looked better.

"We looked more ready in these moments to fight back. That's what we did and in the second half we should have turned the game completely around with the chances we had. At least a point is OK."

Liverpool remain eighth in the Premier League table courtesy of their point against the Gunners and are next in action away to Leeds United on Monday night.
