Mikel Arteta heaps praise on Arsenal's Premier League debutants Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu following Saturday's 1-0 win against Norwich City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on new arrivals Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu after Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win over Norwich City.

Ramsdale was given the nod over Bernd Leno at the Emirates, and while he did not have many saves to make on the day, his distribution caught the eye of Gooners.

Meanwhile, Tomiyasu's debut for the club saw him win seven aerial duels as the former Bologna man played a key role in preserving his side's clean sheet, and Arteta has lauded the pair for their contributions.

Speaking to reporters in his pre-match press conference, Arteta said of Ramsdale: "I think he was terrific. Not only what he did on the technical side, it's what he transmits. His chemistry with the backline... I had to make a decision today and Aaron was the right one to do so."

When asked about Tomiyasu's display, Arteta added: "Really positive. The first impression when you meet him is joy, happiness and energy. He was cramping [in the second half], he had to travel [earlier in the week] and we had to take him off."

Arsenal managed to avoid equalling an unwanted 98-year-old losing record by getting off the mark against Norwich, and Arteta has admitted that he got "pretty emotional" during Saturday's game.
