David Luiz is likely to leave Arsenal on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June, according to a report.

Experienced centre-back David Luiz is reportedly likely to leave Arsenal on a free transfer when his contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of June.

The Brazilian joined the Gunners from Chelsea last August and has featured on 32 occasions for the capital giants during the 2019-20 campaign, including 25 outings in the Premier League.

Luiz's contract is due to expire at the end of June, though, and according to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are not preparing to open talks with the defender over a fresh deal.

The report claims that head coach Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are both 'desperate' to keep hold of the 33-year-old, but the club are not planning to offer him an extension.

Luiz is allegedly keen to remain in London for the 2020-21 campaign, although the South American recently revealed that he wants to return to Benfica before the end of his career.

Arteta's side are also said to be prepared to part with fellow defenders Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding during this summer's transfer window.
