Emiliano Martinez "open" to Arsenal exit

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez admits that he is "open" to leaving the club and hints that he could join Man City's Sergio Aguero in returning to Independiente.

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has admitted that he is "open" to leaving the club and suggested that a return to former team Independiente could be on the agenda later in his career.

The 27-year-old has been with the Gunners since 2010 but has made only 25 senior appearances for the team, with just six of those coming in the Premier League.

Martinez has already made more appearances for Arsenal this season than in any other campaign, having been used in cup competitions, but he remains the clear second choice behind Bernd Leno in goal.

The Argentine played for Independiente before moving to North London, and he hinted that he could return one day following reports that the club are stepping up their interest in another former player Sergio Aguero.

"Well, when Kun Aguero returns, I think about it too. It's the club he loves; I'll tell you that... The truth is that you can never rule that out," Martinez told TNT Sport.

"I'm open to everything, especially with this British stuff. I played in Argentina until I was 17 or 18. I'm never going to say no to the chance of coming back, maybe in two or three years I'll be looking forward to it."

Martinez has spent time out on loan at six different clubs during his Arsenal career, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Getafe and Reading.
