Olivier Giroud: 'Jamie Vardy wants to join Arsenal'

Olivier Giroud admits that he is excited by the prospect of linking up with Jamie Vardy next season after revealing that the Englishman wants to join Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud has claimed that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is keen to join Arsenal this summer after his £20m release clause was met by the Gunners.

The England international, who found the net 24 times for the Foxes last season to spearhead their unlikely charge to the Premier League title, has reportedly already held talks with Arsene Wenger over a move.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri admitted on Saturday that Vardy is now free to talk to other clubs, but the former Fleetwood Town man has yet to speak publicly over his future plans.

However, fresh from scoring twice in France's 3-0 win over Scotland, Giroud was confident that Vardy would become his teammate at the Emirates Stadium sooner rather than later.

"I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it's very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that's all I can say," he told Sky Sports News. "He's a fantastic player, so it's good news for us.

"As I said in the past I am happy with competition. We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.

"The boss wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester."

Vardy is currently on international duty with England, as the Three Lions prepare for their opening Euro 2016 fixture against Russia in six days' time.
