Report: Southampton skipper Jose Fonte urges Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain return

Southampton captain Jose Fonte is urging Arsenal attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to return to St Mary's this summer, according to a report.

Southampton captain Jose Fonte is reportedly personally attempting to persuade Arsenal attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to return to St Mary's at the end of the season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 22, who is currently on the sidelines with a knee problem, left Southampton for Arsenal in 2011 and has since made 100 Premier League appearances for the London club.

The England international has largely struggled to hold down a regular position at the Emirates, however, and it is understood that he will be allowed to leave this summer if Arsenal's valuation is met.

According to The Mirror, Fonte is doing his best to persuade the attacker to return to his former club, but the Saints will face competition from a number of Premier League teams at the end of the campaign.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has only scored once in 22 Premier League appearances this season.
