Ray Wilkins: 'Sacking Tim Sherwood would be a mistake'

Aston Villa assistant Ray Wilkins says that does not understand why the future of manager Tim Sherwood is being questioned.

Aston Villa assistant Ray Wilkins has stated that there should not be questions asked about the future of manager Tim Sherwood.

Villa currently sit 18th in the Premier League after winning one of their opening eight fixtures, and it has been reported that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss has two games left to save his job.

"I think it would be a huge mistake because he's an up and coming manager who did extremely well at Tottenham," he told talkSPORT.

"Let's not forget, it was only six or seven months ago that we were in the FA Cup final and staved off relegation so we really shouldn't be talking about this type of situation."

Sherwood was appointed Villa boss in February.
