Michael Wiesinger lauds "moral victory"

Nuremberg manager Michael Wiesinger says that Augsburg gave his team a difficult match at the SGL Arena last night.

Nuremberg boss Michael Wiesinger has described his team's 2-1 win over rivals Augsburg as a "moral victory".

Alexander Esswein scored the vital goal 10 minutes from time after Tobias Werner had cancelled out Hiroshi Kiyotake's opener at the SGL Arena.

Wiesinger praised his team for the way that they battled against a resilient opponent, who gave them a few "nervy" moments towards the end of the game.

"It was a really important win for us," Wiesinger told reporters. "I've got to compliment my team because they really took the fight to Augsburg.

"It was a difficult game for us. Things didn't get any easier after the equaliser, Augsburg were really aggressive during that period of the match.

"Taking the lead again played into our hands and we found it a great deal easier afterwards. Augsburg just couldn't find a way through because we played well, even though I would have liked us to be a bit more effective on the break. We weren't and that made for a nervy finish but the team earned this win. It was a moral victory."

Nuremberg's win saw them rise to 11th in the Bundesliga.
