Javier Mascherano: 'Barcelona have no excuses'

Javier Mascherano says that he and his Barcelona teammates cannot shy away from their 4-1 defeat at Celta Vigo, but aims for a response against Las Palmas.

Javier Mascherano has said that he nor any of his Barcelona teammates have an excuse for their demoralising 4-1 defeat at Celta Vigo on Wednesday night.

The Catalans' 100% start to the Primera Division season went up in smoke at Balaidos as goals from Nolito and Iago Aspas gave the hosts a shock 2-0 lead at the break.

Further strikes from Aspas and John Guidetti, either side of Neymar's volley, compounded a miserable night for the reigning champions, and Mascherano says that there is nowhere to hide.

"It always hurts to lose for Barca. The best thing is to think of Saturday and to look carefully at last season," he told AS.

"It's part their credit and our failure. There are no excuses. They deserved to win and worked well. The most worrying thing is we feel overwhelmed. That's the worst."

Luis Enrique's side will look to bounce back when they welcome Liga new boys Las Palmas to Camp Nou on Saturday.
