Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly plans to impose a strict salary cap upon new signings at the club from June 30.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly decided to impose a strict salary cap on any new signings at the club after June 30.

The Spanish giants have been beset by financial problems in recent years, an issue which came to a head last summer when they were unable to afford to keep Lionel Messi.

Most of the top earners at Camp Nou have agreed to restructure their contracts in order to ease the club's issues, while others such as Philippe Coutinho have been offloaded.

Barcelona have been able to bring in two new players during the January transfer window, signing Ferran Torres from Manchester City and Adama Traore on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, they have struggled to register new arrivals over the past two windows, and Sport claims that Laporta has now come up with a plan to ease any future financial concerns.

Laporta will reportedly impose a strict €10m (£8.3m) annual salary cap on any new arrivals from the beginning of the summer window, and that there will be no exceptions to the policy.

The decision could impact Barca's chances of competing for the signature of Erling Braut Haaland, who has been linked with most of Europe's top clubs.
