The Premier League announce that Saturday's abandoned fixture between Bournemouth and Luton Town will be replayed in full at a later date.

The Premier League have confirmed that Saturday's abandoned fixture between Bournemouth and Luton Town will be replayed in full at a later date.

Both sides were led off the field as the game was stopped when Tom Lockyer collapsed in the centre of field after suffering a cardiac arrest, with the announcement that the game had been abandoned following soon after.

The incident came just six months after the Luton captain collapsed during their playoff final victory over Coventry City, resulting in surgery to correct a heart problem.

Sixty minutes had passed when the incident happened and the scoreline was level at 1-1 after Dominic Solanke had cancelled out Elijah Adebayo's opener.

Luton's most recent statement came on Sunday, where they said Lockyer was still in hospital, undergoing tests and scans, but they would not provide a "running commentary" on the matter.

The Premier League have now also released a statement confirming that the fixture will be replayed in full at an unspecified date later in the season.

The statement read: "Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday's AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full.

"The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.

"The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.

"The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone. We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC."

Suggestions have already arisen of when the rearranged game could take place, with the staggered gameweek in mid-January a likely solution if a decision is made soon.

With Premier League clubs entering the FA Cup next month, potential replays and a midweek Premier League gameweek at the end of January makes rescheduling after that potentially tricky.

As neither club are in continental competition, replaying the fixture in tandem with the Champions League's last 16 first-leg ties will be the last chance to fit the game in until April.

Luton remain deep in relegation trouble, five points from safety behind Nottingham Forest and face Newcastle United in their next fixture.

Despite having also played a game fewer, Bournemouth have a comfortable 10-point gap between themselves and the drop zone, and face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
