Celtic are reportedly looking to offer manager Ange Postecoglou a new contract amid interest from Leicester City.

Celtic are reportedly looking to offer manager Ange Postecoglou a new contract amid interest from Leicester City.

The Foxes currently have former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers in charge, but his future has recently been questioned following their poor start to the new season.

Leicester have lost each of their last six Premier League matches, including the 6-2 away defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and they currently sit at the foot of the table with just a single point.

Rodgers accepts that his job has come under threat and the Foxes are allegedly calculating the cost of sacking the Norther Irishman, with one report claiming that they would need to fork out over £10m to relieve him of his duties.

Postecoglou has recently emerged as a potential candidate to replace Rodgers at the King Power Stadium, and the Australian was previously on Brighton & Hove Albion's radar before they appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach.

The 57-year-old has been on a one-year rolling contract at Celtic since he replaced Neil Lennon as manager, and his current deal is due to expire in May 2023.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are keen to tie Postecoglou down to a new contract to fend off interest from Leicester and any other potential suitors who may consider an approach.

The report adds that the Hoops are preparing to make a "huge" contract offer to Postecoglou, which would include a pay rise and a release clause inserted into his deal.

Postecoglou recently admitted that he is proud to get noticed for his success at Celtic, but he has played down speculation linking him with a switch to Leicester.

Speaking to Sky Sports News earlier this week, Postecoglou, said: "It's not really on my radar. I've said to my players and it's the same for me – if they do what they do well, all this other stuff takes care of itself, whatever their or my ambitions may be.

"My ambition has been the same wherever I've been – it's to be as successful as I can be. Right now I'm at a massive football club, living the dream and I am enjoying every minute of it.

"Anyone who has followed my career knows that I'm pretty big on playing the game a certain way. I've tried to do that wherever I've been against the backdrop of knowing I have to be successful.

"I've always tried to play football in a manner that I think excites supporters. Wherever I've been, the question has been 'will it work at the next level?' What I've tried to prove is that it does and it will.

"I am at a really massive football club. We're not playing in one of the high profile European leagues. But in terms of the club itself as an institution, we play in front of 60,000 people. We're in the Champions League, it's a massive club. By having success at Celtic, I'm proud that I'm getting noticed everywhere."

Postecoglou enjoyed a successful first season in charge at Celtic, winning the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup as well as securing Champions League group-stage football for the first time in five years.

The former Australia national team coach sees his Celtic side sitting at the top of the Premiership this term, although a 2-0 defeat at St Mirren last weekend saw their 38-game unbeaten league run come to an end.
