Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is allegedly facing a race against time to feature in the EFL Cup final against Liverpool on February 27.

Chelsea have reportedly been dealt a blow ahead of the EFL Cup final with Liverpool after it emerged that Mason Mount is struggling to be fit.

The playmaker hobbled off during the first half of Saturday's Club World Cup final against Palmeiras, and the severity of the ankle injury seemed low after the England international was able to walk off unaided.

However, the 23-year-old was seen using crutches after the game, increasing fears that the academy graduate faced a spell on the sidelines.

According to The Athletic, Mount has been ruled out for at least two weeks, putting his participation in the Wembley showdown on February 27 very much in doubt.

Mount will definitely remain sidelined for Saturday's Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace and the Champions League encounter in Lille three days later.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel may not be prepared to take any risks on Mount with five more fixtures to follow the Liverpool game before the international break.
