Chelsea players 'complained about Frank Lampard tactics'

Frank Lampard reportedly regularly informed his Chelsea players to "go out and express themselves", rather than providing any more detailed instructions.

A number of Chelsea players reportedly complained about a lack of clear tactical instructions from Frank Lampard prior to his Chelsea sacking.

Lampard's 18-month tenure at Stamford Bridge officially came to an end on Monday after a run of two wins in eight Premier League games.

The iconic former midfielder guided Chelsea to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season and to the final of the FA Cup.

However, the West London outfit have endured a largely underwhelming 2020-21 on the back of a £220m summer outlay on new players, the majority of whom have failed to deliver.

According to The Athletic, certain senior stars in the Chelsea dressing room were unhappy with Lampard's methods, with Kepa Arrizabalaga among those named.

It is claimed that the Englishman regularly informed players to "go out and express themselves", rather than providing any more detailed instructions.

Chelsea are expected to appoint Thomas Tuchel, out of work since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain a month ago, in the coming days.
