Frank Lampard can turn Chelsea into a title-winning force if afforded the same time as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, according to Glenn Hoddle.

Former Chelsea player and manager Glenn Hoddle has backed Frank Lampard to challenge for the Premier League title in the next two years if given the same backing as Jurgen Klopp.

Lampard has guided the Blues into fourth place in the top flight in his maiden managerial campaign at Stamford Bridge and into the last eight of the FA Cup.

The midfield legend has yet to bring in any new players of his own - Hakim Ziyech's impending move from Ajax aside - but that is expected to change when the transfer window next opens for business.

Hoddle believes that the key to long-term success at Chelsea is giving Lampard time to shape the squad in his own image, much like Klopp has done at champions-elect Liverpool.

"When you look at the squad you have to wonder what is going on above him in terms of recruitment," he wrote in new book The Boss - Chelsea managers from Ted Drake to Frank Lampard.

"For me, Frank needs a clear transfer policy to take his team forward. He has been getting it right on the training pitch, on the football side, but the next big phase for him will be how the club operate in the transfer market.

"If Frank gets the players he wants, not the players someone else wants, he has an excellent chance, in two or three years' time, of having the right squad and the right team to challenge for the Premier League title.

"Chelsea have to treat Frank exactly the way Liverpool treated Jurgen Klopp, give him the time to rebuild, give him the players he wants."

Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng are rumoured to be high on Lampard's transfer wishlist.
