How Chelsea could line up against Burnley

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up against Burnley in Monday's Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Burnley to Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

The Blues have been in good form in recent weeks, but they suffered a 2-0 loss away to Liverpool last weekend to lose ground in the race for a top-four finish.

This is a fixture Chelsea tend to do well in, most recently storming to a 4-0 victory at Turf Moor in October, though they did lose this same fixture 3-2 on the opening weekend of last season.

Ahead of Monday's showdown in West London, Sports Mole looks at how Maurizio Sarri may set out his side.

Out: Ethan Ampadu (back), Antonio Rudiger (knee)
Doubtful: Eden Hazard (knock), Marcos Alonso (gluteal)

Hazard was taken off in the second half of Chelsea's 4-3 win against Slavia Prague on Thursday evening, though Sarri confirmed after the match that it was a precaution and the Belgian is not facing a spell on the sidelines.

There was also a start for Olivier Giroud in midweek, given the full 90 minutes in the Europa League semi-final second leg, but Sarri has suggested that the Frenchman is unable to play two matches in quick succession.

That paves the way for Gonzalo Higuain to return to the side after sitting out both legs against Slavia and the first hour of last weekend's Liverpool defeat.

Sarri must also make a decision on who starts in the wide areas. Assuming Hazard is used in his favoured left-sided position, that leaves one place up for grabs, with Willian, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro all pushing for a start.

Pedro performed well on Thursday, but Hudson-Odoi and Willian will be fresher and it is the latter - despite Hudson-Odoi's recent run of league starts - who is trusted more by Sarri.

Sarri will be unable to call upon Rudiger due to an injury sustained against Liverpool last weekend, meanwhile, and Alonso is also carrying a knock, making the decision to retain Emerson Palmieri at left-back a simple one.
