Michael Ballack: 'Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend'

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack says that Frank Lampard is a legend after announcing that he will leave the club this summer.

Michael Ballack has described Frank Lampard as a "legend" after the midfielder announced that he would not be signing a new contract with the club.

The England international confirmed that he would be leaving Stamford Bridge after 13 years with the London club.

Ballack, who spent four years at Chelsea alongside Lampard, told Sky Sports News: "He's now at an age where he can be more relaxed, he's achieved everything with Chelsea. He's a legend there, and also for England.

"He's in a good position. He should think about what he wants, does he want success in sport still, to play at the highest level? Or does he want to enjoy life?

"I think he'll have a lot of offers. He's experienced enough to make the right decision. Maybe it's not bad if he plays a few years somewhere else and gains influences from outside England, but I think there will always be a place at Chelsea for him in the future."

Lampard is believed to have held talks with newly-formed MLS side New York City.
