Chelsea confirm agreement for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata is to undergo a medical with Chelsea ahead of completing a switch from Real Madrid, which will reportedly be worth somewhere in the region of £68m.

Chelsea have revealed that an agreement has been reached with Real Madrid for the signing of Spain international striker Alvaro Morata.

The Blues' search for a new leading forward could be wrapped up in the next 48 hours, as only personal terms and a medical are left to be completed.

Morata emerged as a potential target for Chelsea earlier this month after they missed out on Romelu Lukaku, who instead joined Premier League rivals Manchester United for an initial sum of £85m.

Reports emerged on Wednesday afternoon claiming that the Premier League champions were confident of getting a deal done, and that has now been confirmed following successful talks with Madrid.

Morata scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for Madrid last season and is expected to cost Chelsea around £68m to sign.

A statement on the Blues' official website read: "Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge. The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical."

Morata was previously signed on loan by Antonio Conte for Juventus, but the Italian chief departed before the 2014-15 season got underway.

The 24-year-old, who recently admitted that his future was in limbo after missing out on a move to Man United, is expected to be a direct replacement for unsettled striker Diego Costa.
