Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho tells Wayne Rooney to play where he will be happiest next season.

New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told Wayne Rooney to play wherever he is happiest next season, opening the door on a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Rooney is due to have talks with David Moyes over his future with Manchester United, after reportedly asking for a transfer before Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement last season.

Chelsea are one of a number of clubs linked with the England striker's signature, with Mourinho revealing that he thinks Rooney could be coming to the peak of his powers.

He told The Sun: "I like him. He is at a fantastic age. He has maturity, big experience and is still young.

"It's up to him and what he wants, what makes him happy. He's a little bit like me. He doesn't need one more pound in his contract and one more cup won't make a difference. Be happy.

"Where is he happy? Where will he find more happiness to have ambition and drive him?"

Arsenal remain the bookies' favourites to sign Rooney at this stage, with Chelsea not far behind as rumours persist over the forward's next move.
