Chile given stadium ban for homophobic chants

Chile are given a one-match ban on using their national stadium after FIFA finds its supporters guilty of engaging in homophobic chants.

Chile have been issued with a one-match stadium ban by FIFA after their supporters were found guilty of engaging in homophobic chants.

The country had been given a two-match ban, with one match suspended, for a previous incident and now the suspended sentence has been triggered after Chilean fans chanted more homophobic abuse during the World Cup qualifier with Bolivia last month.

The news means that Chile must now play their qualifier against Venezuela next March away from the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago.

FIFA has also handed out fines to Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru and Brazil after determining that their fans had been guilty of homophobic chanting.

Meanwhile, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Paraguay and Albania were given lesser fines for "incidents involving discriminatory and unsporting conduct by fans".
