Everton appoint Duncan Ferguson as the club's caretaker manager while they attempt to find a permanent successor to Rafael Benitez.

Everton have announced that Duncan Ferguson has been put in caretaker charge while they attempt to find a permanent successor to Rafael Benitez.

Since the Spaniard's departure on Sunday, the Toffees have been strongly linked with a reunion with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.

However, as it stands, a second stint at Goodison Park appears unlikely, and that has seemingly led to Everton taking the decision to hand the temporary reins to Ferguson.

A club statement revealed that the legendary Scot would be assisted by John Ebbrell, Leighton Baines and Alan Kelly.

Ferguson held the same position between December 5 and December 21 in 2019, collecting one win and three draws in the period after the sacking of Marco Silva.

Everton, who sit in 16th position in the Premier League standings, are next in action when they play host to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
