Forward Wayne Rooney calls David Unsworth "a true Everton person" after the the Toffees marked his final game in interim charge with a 4-0 win over West Ham United.

Everton forward Wayne Rooney has praised David Unsworth after the interim boss ended his time in charge of the Toffees with a 4-0 win over West Ham United.

After eight games in the dugout, Under-23 boss Unsworth will be replaced by Sam Allardyce, who is expected to be confirmed as manager of the Merseyside club on Thursday.

Unsworth has endured a difficult period since replacing Ronald Koeman but after Wednesday's victory over the Hammers, Rooney has said that the club stalwart deserved to end his temporary spell on a high.

The 32-year-old told BT Sport: "I'm sure we'll enjoy tonight, but first of all we've got to give thanks to David Unsworth. He's stepped in at a difficult time for the football club, he's a true Everton person.

"I'm delighted for him we've got this victory because it's an important win for the club but also for David Unsworth."

Unsworth has recorded two wins and one draw from his eight matches in charge in all competitions.
