Report: Everton identify Thomas Heurtaux as John Stones replacement

An Italian report claims that Everton will look to sign Udinese defender Thomas Heurtaux if John Stones switches to Chelsea.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has reportedly identified Udinese's Thomas Heurtaux as his main defensive target this summer, amid speculation that John Stones is bound for Chelsea.

It has been claimed that the England international has informed Martinez that he would like to join the West Londoners, who recently had a bid for his services rejected.

Nevertheless, it is anticipated that the move will be completed at some stage, which would leave the Toffees short of centre-back options.

That has brought about Martinez's interest in Heurtaux, who is valued at around £6m, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The 27-year-old has made 87 appearances for Udinese following his arrival from Caen in 2012.
