Joachim Low: 'Spain on par with Germany'

Germany boss Joachim Low says that Spain are "on par" with his team ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Germany boss Joachim Low has said that Spain are "on par" with his team ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The two nations played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in Friday night's international friendly in Dusseldorf.

Germany will enter this summer's tournament as the favourites to defend their crown, but 2010 winners Spain are also being tipped to make an impression in Russia.

Low has claimed that La Roja will "have an important role to play at the World Cup" as one of the favourites for success.

"Both teams played very well, it was a great test against a team on par with us. Both teams wanted to attack, pressing each other. They made it hard for us to play at times, but we took risks and I can draw good conclusions from that," Low told reporters.

"I'm very happy with our high level of performance. Anyone who thinks it's easy to beat another World Cup team is wrong. Spain and their club teams play at the highest level in Europe, and you can tell that their players have been playing together for a long time, with automatisms that work perfectly.

"They respond to pressure with calmness and tranquillity, plus they know how to play very good football. They'll have an important role to play at the World Cup."

Germany will continue their preparations for the World Cup with a home game against Brazil on Tuesday night.
